Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has voiced his strong disapproval of certain Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members who are now backing a new opposition alliance that has thrown its weight behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on Wednesday at the PDP Stakeholders Conference in Abuja, Governor Mohammed firmly asserted that it is contradictory for individuals to claim allegiance to the PDP while simultaneously supporting a separate political alliance.

In his capacity as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Mohammed emphasized the party’s stance against what he described as escalating acts of disloyalty. He stressed that PDP members must make a definitive choice regarding their political loyalties.
“We cannot take indiscipline to a level where it becomes contagious. If you are in PDP you are in PDP, you cannot be in the PDP and be in the coalition or another party. We cannot take this, coalition is an aberration. Yes, I said it. You cannot belong to two places. You cannot be a hermaphrodite, you cannot be a man and a woman at the same time,” Governor Mohammed said.
The governor’s views were echoed by numerous founding figures of the PDP who were present at the gathering. They reaffirmed that members cannot continue to parade themselves as part of the PDP while covertly serving the interests of rival political platforms.
The PDP has been grappling with internal turmoil for over two years, with tensions reaching a tipping point recently. Just last week, its 2023 presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, officially quit the party.
The former Vice President attributed his departure to deep-seated disputes within the party, which, according to him, have rendered reconciliation impossible. He said the current direction of the PDP no longer aligns with the values on which it was founded.
Before Atiku’s exit, former Senate President David Mark also resigned from the party. Mark has since been named the interim chairman of the newly formed coalition which has adopted the ADC as its official platform.
