Breaking: Three Katsina Reps dump PDP for APC

Date:

In what has been described as a significant political shift in the National Assembly, three members of the House of Representatives from Katsina State have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection was announced on Thursday on the floor of the Green Chamber, sparking both cheers and murmurs from lawmakers across party lines.

The lawmakers who defected are Hon. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, representing Mashi and Dutsi Federal Constituency; Hon. Aliyu Iliyasu Ruma, representing Batsari, Safana, and Danmusa Federal Constituency and Hon. Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, representing Bakori and Danja Federal Constituency.

The trio cited irreconcilable differences with the leadership of the PDP both at the national and state levels as the primary reason for their decision.

They also pointed to the growing confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC’s renewed commitment to developmental governance as a motivating factor.

Their defection follows a recent trend of opposition lawmakers and stakeholders across the country abandoning the PDP for the APC, further consolidating the ruling party’s influence in the legislature ahead of the 2027 general elections.
