While addressing members of Obi’s team, popularly referred to as the “Obidient” movement, the governor made a public appeal for Obi to return to the PDP, the party under which he once ran as a vice-presidential candidate in 2019.
He declared, “We have to harmonise our interests in the interest of the people of Nigeria. The opposition must come together. This ADC, PDP and even the remaining political parties should come together. And we don’t even hate the present administration. We wish they would do better, but as I discussed with you, there’s no budget.
“There is no plan. Everything is about politics from day one.And we have to be cautious, not to disparage our people. We have to unite the opposition, our ego and our interests. So that we can present a common front to compete and to make sure that we go to the promised land.”
According to Governor Mohammed, Nigerians are increasingly anxious about the country’s future, particularly as the 2027 polls draw nearer. He noted that citizens’ frustrations must be addressed responsibly.
“There is a lot of hunger and anger. And we don’t want to cause so many disparaging movements,” he added.
Once again, he called on Obi to rejoin the PDP fold, saying, “So please come back. That’s where you belong. Don’t go anywhere that is in disarray.”
In response, Peter Obi explained that his visit to Bauchi was primarily to meet with youths enrolled in colleges of health as well as Almajiri schools across the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the talent and enthusiasm he encountered among young people. He lauded Governor Bala Mohammed’s efforts in the education sector, describing his initiatives as impactful.
When asked about Nigeria’s current political climate, Obi reiterated his long-standing call for a shift in political orientation.
He said, “Our politics must change. It has to be politics of development, Politics of competence, politics of capacity and compassion, where we care for other people.”Obi explained that his meeting with Governor Mohammed was aimed at fostering dialogue around the nation’s challenges and exploring collaborative solutions.
“It was a courtesy visit,” he said, “to talk about the problems of the country. How can we solve it together?”
Obi also affirmed that collaboration among political parties would be necessary before the 2027 elections, noting that such alliances should not be centered on capturing power alone.
He clarified, “Alliance is not for power grabbing, but to bring about changes and development.”
During his visit, Obi made donations to two educational institutions in Bauchi. He gave ₦10 million to Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences and ₦5 million to Intisharu Islamic and Quranic Memorisation School, totaling ₦15 million in support.
While presenting the donation at Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, Obi emphasized the vital role of nurses in the healthcare system.
He said, “You are very important to this Nigeria, and if there is anything we can do to support what you are doing, we need to do it. The nurse is more important than the doctor. The nurse knows the patient, the nurse owns the patient, the nurse is everything.”
