Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has offered a candid response to speculations about his political future and potential defection from the Labour Party (LP), stating that while he remains committed to the party for now, no decision is set in stone.
Speaking in an interview on Arise television, Governor Otti maintained that the current political climate does not warrant a shift from the Labour Party, which brought him into office.

However, he emphasized that only time will tell what decisions may be necessary in the future.“I’m not God to say that I will remain in LP or leave LP,” Otti stated frankly.
“As we speak, the objective conditions today do not make it for me to leave LP. Tomorrow anything can change. If I’m going to take any decision, it will be made in full consultation with the Abia people.”
Governor Otti’s remarks come amidst growing political realignments nationwide particularly key stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the 2027 general elections gradually take shape.
Otti, a former Group Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc (Access Bank Plc) while being open to future changes said he is more interested with the growth and development of Abia State than any potential political move.

On the subject of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s performance since assuming office in May 29, 2023, Governor Otti declined to offer a detailed assessment.
Instead, he chose a reserved and diplomatic stance, citing his access to the presidency as a basis for private dialogue.
“This is one question I will not be able to answer. Why? Because I have access to him, and I can always discuss with him,” Otti said. “Today, it’s just 23 months into the administration; it’s still early days.”
While refraining from public criticism or praise, Otti’s comments suggest that he prefers to engage constructively with the federal government behind closed doors rather than through media pronouncements.
Political observers view the governor’s remarks as both calculated and strategic—balancing loyalty to his party and constituents with an open line of communication to the presidency.
As the political terrain continues to shift, all eyes will remain on leaders like Governor Otti, whose decisions could influence the national outlook in the years to come.
