Prominent media mogul and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a takeover of the party by what he described as “antidemocratic forces.
“In a statement shared on his Facebook page Thursday, the veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant did not mince words as he declared his exit from the PDP with immediate effect.

According to him, the core ideals of the party have been compromised beyond redemption.“I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect,” Momodu said in the statement.

“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.”
This revelation adds to the growing unease within the ranks of the main opposition party, which has been grappling with internal disunity and a series of high-profile defections in recent months.
Chief Momodu, who has long been seen as one of the intellectual pillars within the PDP, further announced his move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party he says represents a more hopeful and democratic coalition.“
It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us carnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” he said.
Although he did not name the individuals or groups behind the alleged hijack of the PDP, political analysts say his comments may be a veiled reference to power blocs within the party who have been accused of frustrating internal reforms.
Momodu, known for his articulate political opinions and wide media reach, expressed appreciation for the support he received from friends and political associates during his time in the PDP.
“I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times,” he concluded.
According to political analysts, his defection to the ADC is expected to boost the profile of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political realignments continue across Nigeria’s volatile political landscape.
