Vice President Kashim Shettima has passionately urged the people of Edo State to rally behind the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in the upcoming governorship election this Saturday. Speaking at the grand finale of the APC’s campaign at the University of Benin’s Sports Complex, Shettima emphasized the need for a leader who is a strategic thinker and a unifying force for the state.
“Whether you’re a civil servant, trader, or from any background—Esan or Afemai, Christian or Muslim—our aspirations are the same. We all want a functional Edo State that creates opportunities for everyone,” Shettima stated to an enthusiastic crowd.
Highlighting recent improvements in revenue allocation, the Vice President assured the people that this is the ideal time for effective governance in Nigeria. “With increased resources, your incoming government can implement programs that truly benefit you,” he promised.
Shettima made it clear that Okpebholo is the most qualified candidate to lead Edo, stressing the importance of empathy and connection with the people’s needs. “Edo requires a compassionate leader who understands the pulse of the community. Senator Okpebholo embodies that spirit,” he declared, quoting former U.S. President Ronald Reagan on the essence of leadership.
Addressing the current challenges facing the nation, Shettima also expressed solidarity with flood victims, assuring the audience that the government is actively mobilizing resources for relief efforts. “This is a time for unity and compassion as we navigate through adversity,” he said.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio echoed Shettima’s sentiments, urging Edo citizens to vote for the party in power at the center to maximize benefits. He highlighted the N212 billion allocated for the reconstruction of the Auchi-Benin road, which promises to boost local economic activities.
APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje stressed the need for liberation after eight years of suffering in Edo, declaring Okpebholo as the right choice to revitalize the state.
Former Governor Adams Oshiomhole lamented the current administration’s poor performance, calling for a return to development and infrastructure improvement.
Senator Okpebholo concluded by promising significant initiatives, including job creation for teachers, support for farmers, and improvements in healthcare across the state.
The campaign event was a star-studded affair, featuring several governors and dignitaries, all uniting for a common purpose: a brighter future for Edo State.
