President Bola Tinubu will depart Lagos on Monday for Accra, Ghana, to attend President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s inauguration.
The inauguration is scheduled to hold on January 7 in Accra, the Republic of Ghana’s capital.
Tinubu was invited to the ceremony by Mahama, the incoming president.
Recall that Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s 12th President from 2011 to 2017, returned to office in an election in December 2024.
He is set to succeed President Nana Akuffo-Addo (2017-2025).
Mahama paid Tinubu a visit immediately after his victory in December.
According to Tinubu’s media aide Bayo Onanuga, Mahama and Tinubu have a long-standing personal friendship, similar to what Nigeria and Ghana enjoy through their bilateral partnership.
The statement also noted that Tinubu, as Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will join other African leaders at the ceremony.
“Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and other senior government officials will accompany President Tinubu on the trip,” the statement added.
