Kano electoral commission issues certificates to new LG chairmen

Date:

The Kano Independent Electoral Commission has issued certificates of return to the newly elected 44 Local Government Chairmen in the state. The commission’s Chairman, Prof. Sani Malumfashi, presented the certificates on Sunday.

Prof. Malumfashi emphasized that the commission is authorized to issue these certificates, legitimizing the elected leaders of the local government areas. He urged the newly elected chairmen and councillors to serve their communities diligently.

“As part of the electoral process, the commission is responsible for issuing certificates of return to the elected chairmen and councillors as the official representatives of their local government areas,” Malumfashi stated during the presentation. “They are now entrusted with the responsibility of addressing the official needs of their respective LGAs.”

Governor Abba Yusuf is expected to swear in the newly elected chairmen at Government House in Kano soon.

In the recent local government elections, the state electoral commission declared the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) the victor of all 44 chairmanship positions and 484 councillorship positions.

“Six political parties participated in the election: AA, AAC, Accord, ADC, APM, and NNPP,” Malumfashi said. “The NNPP emerged victorious in all 44 local government chairmanships and 484 councillorship positions.”

Ahead of the elections, Governor Yusuf had affirmed on Friday, October 25, that the planned October 26 polls would proceed as scheduled. He stressed that the state had met all legal requirements and would not allow anyone to disrupt the peace enjoyed by its citizens.

“We are aware of attempts by some individuals to derail the election, but with the grace of Allah, they will not succeed. The elections will be held peacefully and credibly,” Governor Yusuf stated.

This development follows a Federal High Court ruling that removed the commission’s chairman, Prof. Malumfashi, due to his affiliation as a member of a political party. Despite the ruling, the local government elections proceeded as planned.
