Kenneth Okonkwo slams Tinubu’s two-year tenure, labels it a failure

Date:

Labour Party chieftain and legal practitioner, Kenneth Okonkwo, has described the two years under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership as an abysmal failure, stating that the administration has brought nothing but hardship to Nigerians.

Speaking in an interview with News Central Television, Okonkwo strongly criticized the government’s performance, asserting that it has failed to shield Nigerians from economic pain and growing insecurity.

The actor-turned-politician also questioned the rationale of those who continue to support President Tinubu and the ruling APC.

“There’s no way anybody will be praising this government without appearing like a fool,” he said.

He recalled the President’s controversial declaration at his inauguration, where Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidy.

According to Okonkwo, this move was made without the presence of a functioning cabinet and led to immediate hardship for citizens.

“When they came in, Tinubu at the inauguration ground said fuel subsidy is gone. And then, when he was saying that, there was no cabinet in place. Fuel price rose from N195 to N617 in one swoop and then they floated the naira and the naira depreciated going to almost N2,000 to a dollar from about N460,” Okonkwo said.

He expressed dismay that, instead of offering relief or tangible solutions, the government and its spokespersons continue to ask Nigerians to exercise patience while poverty and hunger worsen.

According to him, the public has demonstrated significant patience since the start of Tinubu’s administration, yet that goodwill has yielded no visible results.

Okonkwo said, “Are you praising this government, you are doing it on the blood and graves of the people of Benue State who are being massacred every day.

“As I talk to you, people are dying in Benue State not because they committed any crimes but because Tinubu is their president who could not defend them,” Okonkwo added.

He pointed out that Benue is governed by a priest and is aligned with the APC, arguing that its citizens deserve to be protected both spiritually and politically under the current leadership.
