The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is under the control of any influential inner circle.
According to Wike, the president remains fully in command of his administration and decisions.Wike made these comments on Thursday while speaking at the 2025 edition of the OAU Distinguished Personality Lecture, held at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife.
“He has shown that he has the courage. Under Tinubu, there is nothing like cabal. This is a president that is in charge,” Wike said.

Addressing an audience that included academics, students, and notable guests, the former governor of Rivers State offered a strong endorsement of Tinubu’s governance, particularly commending his prompt and firm economic policy decisions.
He highlighted Tinubu’s willingness to implement politically sensitive reforms, notably the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates—moves previous administrations, including those of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, had avoided.
“So many people would still be benefiting from fuel subsidy fraud had Tinubu not removed it,” Wike remarked, describing the subsidy removal as a critical corrective measure for the country’s economy.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s developmental trajectory since independence, Wike acknowledged the persistent challenges and divisions plaguing the nation.
However, he expressed hope that progress could still be achieved through visionary leadership and national unity.
“The desired Nigeria won’t fall from heaven but will require the vision, sacrifice, hard work and purpose of all citizens. Let us leave for the next generation resolves and not regrets,” he charged.
In response to criticism and calls for his dismissal, Wike stood firm, saying those questioning his competence were misguided and out of touch with the realities of his performance.
