The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has initiated a protest against the upcoming local government area (LGA) elections scheduled for Saturday, October 5th.
Led by PDP Chairman Chukwuemeka Aaron, the protest took place despite heavy rain on Thursday morning, with supporters marching from the PDP Secretariat on the Port Harcourt-Aba expressway to the Police Headquarters on Moscow Road.
Upon reaching the police headquarters, the protesters submitted an official petition, calling on security agencies to withdraw their involvement in the upcoming elections.
While handing over the petition, a rain-soaked Chairman Aaron accused Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara of ignoring the rule of law. He reminded police officials of an existing court order halting the election and instructed them not to provide security for the event. Aaron urged the police to respect the court’s decision and avoid participation in the electoral process.
