Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who recently stepped down from his position as Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the Vice President, has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
His remarks came during an appearance on the Political Paradigm programme aired on Channels Television on Tuesday.
According to Baba-Ahmed, President Tinubu has fallen short of the promise to improve governance and uplift the standard of living for Nigerians.

“Clearly, the Tinubu administration has failed expectations that it was going to radically improve the quality of governance,” the former Northern Elders Forum (NEF) spokesperson said during the broadcast.

He stressed that the government’s effectiveness shouldn’t be judged solely by external reports or favorable metrics provided by institutions like the World Bank. Instead, the actual experiences of ordinary Nigerians should be the key benchmark.
“They will tell you they are doing great with all the World Bank statistics, all the international ratings and everything, but that’s not the only measures you use to measure a government; you measure by the way citizens live, and if that is the yardstick by which we are going to measure this administration, then clearly, the Tinubu administration has failed expectations that it was going to radically improve the quality of governance of President Buhari,”he added.
Baba-Ahmed highlighted the need for the president to take concrete action in tackling widespread corruption and insecurity, reducing poverty, and investing significantly in infrastructure and social services. He also criticized the removal of fuel subsidies, saying it has worsened the economic realities for many Nigerians.
He further urged President Tinubu to use his executive powers to hold state governors, particularly those from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accountable in their management of public funds.
“So much waste, so much abuse of resources and corruption going on,”he lamented.
In his view, improving governance and transparency at federal, state, and local government levels should be a priority for the president moving forward.
