President Bola Tinubu held a meeting on Saturday evening with key members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move that is already stirring speculation of a potential political reconfiguration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting took place at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa and was convened by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In attendance were several of Wike’s close associates, many of whom were previously part of the now-defunct G5 Governors—a breakaway PDP group that distanced itself from the party’s presidential campaign in 2023.
The G5, which Wike led as the outgoing Rivers State governor at the time, had rejected the PDP presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, in favour of supporting Tinubu, then candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Following his election victory, Tinubu appointed Wike—still a PDP member—as Minister of the FCT in August 2023.
Also present at the meeting were Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, as well as Samuel Ortom and Okezie Ikpeazu, ex-governors of Benue and Abia States, respectively, and former G5 members.
While the exact discussions remain under wraps, insiders suggest the talks may have centred around fostering collaboration and possibly incorporating the former PDP leaders into the APC’s wider political agenda.
