We Arrested Yahaya Bello At Midnight, He Is With Us – EFCC

Date:

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is currently at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja. Reports suggest that he was apprehended by EFCC operatives in Lokoja during a midnight operation.

Yahaya Bello faces a serious legal challenge with a 19-count charge of money laundering involving N80 billion. Since the case began in April 2024 at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the former governor has been absent from court hearings, failing to attend in person.

The EFCC’s account of the situation contrasts with the statement from Bello’s media office. According to the media office, Bello willingly complied with the EFCC’s summons after thorough discussions with his political, legal, and family advisors. They stressed that he was committed to abiding by the law and protecting his fundamental rights, and was not attempting to evade arrest.

Invitation Honoured at Last

FORMER GOVERNOR YAHAYA BELLO HONOURS EFCC’S INVITATION

Former Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has today complied with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) invitation. This decision follows comprehensive consultations with his family, legal team, and political associates.

The former governor, known for his respect for the rule of law and commitment to due process, has consistently sought to ensure that his fundamental rights are upheld. Despite his absence from court proceedings, his legal team has represented him diligently throughout the case.

Governor Bello is keen to clear his name and demonstrate his transparency, as he firmly believes in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for sustainable economic development and supports the ongoing fight against corruption in Nigeria.

Notably, Bello was the first Kogi State governor to establish an anti-corruption mechanism aimed at curbing graft and ensuring state resources are used for public benefit.

Accompanied by prominent Nigerians, Bello’s presence at the EFCC headquarters underscores his commitment to addressing the charges against him transparently. It is anticipated that the EFCC will handle the matter professionally and respect his rights as a citizen of Nigeria.

Further details regarding his engagement with EFCC operatives will be provided in due course.
