Wike: Why I’ll not disclose details of peace deal with Fubara

Date:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that he will not divulge the specifics of the recent reconciliation between him and the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara.

According to Wike, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, the most critical outcome is the restoration of peace in the state.

Speaking during a media chat at his Abuja residence on Thursday, Wike explained that he preferred to leave the public guessing rather than outline the details of the agreement.

“I will allow you to speculate, it’s not my business. All I know is that peace has come,” Wike said.

“If you are not satisfied with that, there is nothing we can do. What is important is that peace has returned, whatever thing anybody says is not my business.”

The FCT Minister further noted that some individuals had been exploiting the political tension in Rivers State for personal financial gain. He accused these actors of being displeased with the reconciliation between him and Fubara because it disrupted their self-serving agendas.

The resolution between the two political figures followed a meeting facilitated by President Bola Tinubu last month. The session brought together Wike, Fubara, and the suspended lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly, setting the stage for a renewed atmosphere of political stability in the state.President Tinu

bu had, in March 2025, suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the State Assembly amid a fierce and prolonged political conflict in the oil-rich state.

The crisis originated from a power struggle between Wike and Fubara, his former protégé, over control of political structures in Rivers. Tensions escalated when a faction of the Assembly aligned with Wike, under the leadership of Martin Amaewhule, initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor.

In response to the deepening crisis, Tinubu took the drastic step of suspending the involved parties and appointed retired naval officer, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (rtd), as the sole administrator of the state.
