Michelle Alozie emerged the hero for the Super Falcons on Tuesday, netting a dramatic stoppage-time winner to clinch a 2-1 victory over South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in a tense semi-final clash in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
As the match looked destined for extra time, Alozie launched a deep cross into the penalty area which caught the South African goalkeeper off guard and proved decisive.

Earlier in the game, Rasheedat Ajibade had opened the scoring for Nigeria from the penalty spot in the first half. South Africa responded after the break, with Linda Motlhalo converting a penalty to draw her side level.
The result marks the Super Falcons’ return to the final for the first time since the 2018 edition held in Ghana.
Despite enjoying more possession—55% compared to Nigeria’s 45%—South Africa struggled to turn their dominance into goals.
The Super Falcons, on the other hand, were more efficient, recording seven shots on target against South Africa’s three.
Passing statistics showed South Africa with a higher completion rate of 73%, while Nigeria trailed with 66%.
The nine-time champions will now face either tournament hosts Morocco or Ghana’s Black Queens in the final on Saturday, July 26.
