Manchester United‘s ongoing struggles in the Premier League may not fully reflect their actual performances, according to head coach Ruben Amorim, who pointed to the team’s expected goals data as evidence that they deserve better results.
Currently languishing in 16th place on the English Premier League table, United are enduring what has been statistically their poorest campaign in Premier League history.

Amorim acknowledged their shortcomings but argued that misfortune has also played a significant role in their disappointing run.

“It’s difficult to comment without sounding irrational, but if you analyze the expected goals from recent matches, ours has been consistently higher,” Amorim explained.
“Take the match against Wolves, for instance—we created chances and they scored from a set-piece, their first real opportunity. We had several openings in the second half, and while I can accept the situation, it’s not easy to discuss in the heat of the moment. Our priority now is to finish the season positively.”
He continued: “Our approach must be straightforward: play to win. We need to show our quality, earn points, and deliver performances that match the expectations of this club.”
Looking ahead, Amorim has emphasized the need for Manchester United to make bold moves in the upcoming transfer window.
He recently urged the club to act decisively in the market, with young striker Liam Delap rumored to be a key target for the summer rebuild.
United will wrap up their league season with matches against Chelsea and Aston Villa, but their attention is increasingly shifting toward the Europa League final against Tottenham, which presents a last chance at silverware in an otherwise turbulent season.
