Date:

In a pulsating encounter at the Amex Stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion edged Liverpool 3-2 to leap three points clear in eighth place with just one Premier League game remaining, boosting their hopes of European qualification.

Despite a sluggish start, Liverpool found themselves twice in the lead thanks to goals from Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai, either side of an equaliser from Brighton’s Yasin Ayari.

However, the Seagulls, brimming with resilience and energy, fought back with spirit and precision.Substitute Kaoru Mitoma made an immediate impact, drawing Brighton level at 2-2 shortly after coming on.

Then, in the 85th minute, another substitute, Jack Hinshelwood, tapped home from close range after an excellent delivery from Matt O’Riley.

The linesman initially flagged the goal for offside, but a swift review by the semi-automated offside technology confirmed the goal stood, sparking wild celebrations among the home fans.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah had the chance to put the game out of reach when the Reds were leading 2-1, but he squandered a golden opportunity that would come back to haunt Jürgen Klopp’s side.

Brighton’s superior xG (2.34 to Liverpool’s 2.11) reflected their attacking dominance and deserved victory.

It was a thrilling match filled with momentum shifts, standout performances, and a dramatic finish—one that could have lasting implications on the European qualification picture.

For Brighton, the dream of returning to continental competition remains alive.

For Liverpool, questions will be asked about missed chances and late defensive lapses.
