In a highly anticipated move, Eric Chelle was officially announced as the new head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Monday.
The unveiling ceremony took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, where Chelle was introduced to the press in a vibrant media conference.
Chelle’s appointment was approved by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last Tuesday, making him the 42nd substantive head coach of the Super Eagles.

Eric Chelle, the 47-year-old former Mali international, has been handed the responsibility of steering Nigeria’s Super Eagles back on track in their faltering 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Currently in fifth place in Group C with just three points from four matches and no wins to their name, Chelle faces a challenging task to reignite the team’s hopes.
In addition to his World Cup duties, Chelle will also lead the home-based Super Eagles in the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to be held in Ivory Coast, marking another significant challenge on his new coaching horizon.
