Liverpool started strong, taking the lead in the 20th minute when Cody Gakpo capitalized on a cross from Andrew Robertson, heading the ball into the net to redeem himself after missing an earlier opportunity.

Just a minute later, Dominik Szoboszlai set up Luis Diaz, who calmly slotted the ball into an empty net, putting the hosts firmly in control.

However, Arsenal emerged from the halftime break with renewed vigor. Just two minutes into the second half, Leandro Trossard delivered a precise cross to Gabriel Martinelli, who expertly directed a header into the bottom-right corner, narrowing the deficit to 2-1.

The Gunners continued to press, and by the 70th minute, they had equalized. After a long-range effort from Martin Ødegaard was brilliantly saved by Liverpool’s Alisson, the ball fell to Mikel Merino, who scored from close range.

Despite protests from Liverpool players regarding offside, the goal stood, as Merino was played onside by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The match took a turn for Merino, who received a second yellow card for a reckless challenge on Darwin Núñez and Szoboszlai just nine minutes later, leaving Arsenal to finish the game with ten men.

Both teams had chances to snatch a late winner, with Ødegaard missing a crucial opportunity and Liverpool having a goal disallowed due to a foul by Ibrahima Konaté on Lewis-Skelly.

Ultimately, the match ended in a stalemate, with both sides underperforming against their expected goals of 2.56 for Liverpool and 2.31 for Arsenal.

As Arsenal continues to fight for Champions League qualification, this draw leaves them with work to do, while Liverpool will look to build on their performance in upcoming fixtures.
