Nigerian sprint sensation Favour Ofili etched her name into the history books on Saturday by setting a new world record in the women’s 150 metres at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Games.
Competing at Piedmont Park, she blazed to an extraordinary finish of 15.85 seconds (2.0m/s), a time never before achieved in the event.

At just 22 years of age, Ofili became the first female athlete to dip below the 16-second barrier in the 150m, toppling the previous world best of 16.23 seconds set by Bahamian Olympic gold medalist Shaunae Miller-Uibo in 2018.
Her groundbreaking run was the standout highlight of a stellar showing from Team Nigeria at the high-profile street athletics competition, which featured top-tier talent from around the world and took place in an energetic, fan-friendly outdoor environment.Reacting to her record-breaking feat, Ofili expressed her gratitude on X, writing: “For the lord is Good.”
Adding to Nigeria’s impressive outing was reigning 100m hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan. She placed second in her heat with a strong 12.53 seconds, just behind American star Keni Harrison who clocked 12.44 seconds.
Amusan’s effort secured her a place in the final and reflects a consistent upward trajectory this season, following previous finishes of 12.74 and 12.66 seconds in earlier meets held in Xiamen and Keqiao.
Elsewhere, Nigerian sprinter Udodi Onwuzurike posted a season-best 10.20 seconds in his 100m heat, placing second behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who ran 10.13 seconds.
The result was enough to send Onwuzurike through to the final, marking a promising return to form in his 2025 campaign.
