Manchester United have officially announced the signing of highly-rated young Paraguayan defender Diego León from Cerro Porteño, marking another investment in emerging talent as the club continues to build for the future.

The 18-year-old full-back arrives at Old Trafford having already made a significant impression in South America, with 33 senior appearances and four goals to his name for his former club in Paraguay’s top division.

“Manchester United are delighted to announce the signing of exciting young defender Diego León, subject to registration,” the club said in a statement released on Saturday.

León, who turned 18 in April, has represented Paraguay at youth international level and is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in South American football. His ability to contribute in both defense and attack has drawn comparisons to some of United’s most versatile full-backs in recent history.

“The talented full-back has already played 33 senior games, scoring 4 goals, for his club,” United noted, highlighting his early experience despite his young age.

The club also emphasized its commitment to supporting León’s transition to European football. “Leon reached the age of 18 in April and as an emerging talent will be supported by our first team and the Academy whilst he settles into life in Manchester,” the statement added.

His signing reflects Manchester United’s broader strategy of identifying and developing young players with high potential, following a similar path taken by other South American recruits who have successfully integrated into the squad over the years.

While León is expected to begin his career at United working closely with both the Academy and first-team coaching staff, fans will be eager to see how quickly the Paraguayan defender adapts to the demands of English football.
