Man United step up pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo with fresh £70m bid

Date:

Manchester United have intensified their efforts to secure Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo by submitting a third and significantly improved bid valued at up to £70 million.

According to a report by The Athletic, the Red Devils have tabled an offer of £65 million with an additional £5 million in potential add-ons.

This latest proposal marks an increase on their previous attempts to sign the Cameroonian forward, whose future has been the subject of ongoing speculation throughout the summer transfer window.

Brentford have already rejected prior bids from United, believed to be in the region of £55 million and £62.5 million including add-ons. The West London club reportedly want a fee that surpasses the £62.5 million United paid Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Cunha earlier in the window.

Negotiations have been dragging for weeks, and sources suggest the delay is causing growing frustration for Mbeumo, who is reportedly eager to make the move to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old joined Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019 for just £5.8 million. He had an immediate impact, scoring 16 goals in his debut season and earning nominations for both the EFL Player and Young Player of the Year awards.

Last season, he reached a career-high 20 goals in the Premier League, which earned him a Premier League Player of the Season nomination.

United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen to finalize the deal swiftly, ideally before the club’s pre-season tour begins on July 22. Amorim is planning to pair Mbeumo with Matheus Cunha as part of a new-look attack for the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Whether Brentford will accept this latest offer remains to be seen, but United are optimistic that Mbeumo’s desire to join them could help push the deal over the line.
