Van Nistelrooy named interim coach as Man United sack Ten Hag

Date:

Manchester United have dismissed Erik ten Hag as head coach after an underwhelming spell in charge of the club.

In an official statement, United announced that former club striker Ruud van Nistelrooy will step in as interim manager. The change comes following a disappointing 2-1 loss to West Ham United on Sunday, which marked United’s fourth defeat in the Premier League this season, dropping them to 14th place in the standings.

United have also struggled in the Europa League, remaining winless with three consecutive draws, placing them in 21st out of 36 teams in the competition.

Ten Hag, who took the reins in April 2022, succeeded interim manager Ralf Rangnick after the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Despite a tenure marked by inconsistent performances in the league, Ten Hag managed to secure two domestic trophies for United, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

Van Nistelrooy will lead the team on an interim basis with Ten Hag’s technical staff, as United begin the search for a permanent manager.
