Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres has surged to the summit of the European Golden Boot leaderboard, following a prolific campaign in Portugal’s Primeira Liga.
The Swedish forward has found the net 39 times this season, earning him a total of 58.5 points under the Golden Boot’s weighted scoring system.

This puts him marginally ahead of Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé, who has scored 29 goals and accumulated 58 points.
The close competition between the two is a result of UEFA’s league coefficient system, which assigns different point values based on the difficulty of the league.

Goals scored in the Portuguese top tier are multiplied by 1.5, whereas strikes in Europe’s top five leagues, such as Spain’s La Liga, receive a factor of 2.0.Mbappé edged closer to Gyökeres after scoring against Sevilla last weekend.
He now has one remaining opportunity to claim the award when Real Madrid face Real Sociedad in their final league match next Saturday.
Trailing the front-runners are Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, and Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, who complete the current top five in the prestigious rankings.
