You did it, girls!, Tinubu hails D’Tigress after historic AfroBasket victory

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket Women’s Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The team made history on Sunday by defeating Mali 78-64 in the final to claim their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title and seventh overall, becoming the first African nation to achieve such a feat.

In a celebratory message posted on X, President Tinubu praised the team for their outstanding performance and national pride.

“You did it, girls! @DtigressNG. Superb performance to become 5x consecutive Champions of Africa and seventh overall,” he wrote.

The president also extended his appreciation to the coaching crew for their leadership and dedication. “Well done, Coach Rena and the team. You have made Nigeria proud,” he added.

In a show of admiration and patriotism, President Tinubu signaled his eagerness to personally receive the victorious team upon their return: “I am expecting you all, along with the trophy. #MissionV – Done & Dusted.”

The victory underscores D’Tigress’ dominance on the continent, with the team now unbeaten in 29 AfroBasket games since 2015.

Their relentless drive and unity have not only earned them accolades but also reinforced Nigeria’s place at the summit of women’s basketball in Africa.

With national leaders and fans alike pouring in tributes, D’Tigress return home as champions — once again — and now as legends.
