Users worldwide reported outages on Meta-owned platforms WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook on Wednesday evening.
Downdetector recorded over 100,000 outage reports for Facebook and 70,000 for Instagram, with users taking to X (formerly Twitter) to vent their frustrations.
Meta acknowledged the disruption, stating, “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”
WhatsApp similarly assured users that a solution was underway and that services were gradually returning to normal.
This incident adds to a history of outages affecting Meta platforms. Previous global outages include a six-hour disruption in October 2021 and another widespread issue in March of the same year.
Meta’s platforms, which serve 3.29 billion daily users, remain critical communication tools worldwide, amplifying the impact of such technical issues.
