The Presidency has confirmed that former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Betta Edu, will not be reappointed to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga made this statement during Sunday’s episode of Inside Sources on Channels Television.

He emphasised that Edu’s former role has been permanently filled by Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, a former gubernatorial candidate from Plateau State.

Onanuga said: “I think there is another person from Cross River in the cabinet. Betta Edu is gone. Don’t forget that she was suspended in January, and this is October.

“No, she is gone. Her position has been taken over by someone else, that’s the man from Plateau (Nentawe) who is now assuming the role.

“As far as this government is concerned, there is no place for her in the cabinet.

“The EFCC has not shared whatever they have, but if you consider the president’s action, it suggests that the EFCC may have submitted something that justified the president’s decision.”

This announcement puts an end to months of speculation about a possible reinstatement to her previous position.

President Tinubu suspended the minister in January amid widespread public outcry over an alleged ₦585 million scandal.

He also instructed the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into all financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as any associated agencies.
