JUST IN: Reps directs NCC to block all pornographic websites in Nigeria

Date:

The Nigerian House of Representatives has approved a resolution urging the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to block all pornographic websites in the country, calling for swift action from internet service providers to prevent access to such content.

The motion, introduced by Dalhatu Tafoki, an All Progressives Congress (APC) representative from Katsina State, highlighted the growing global concern over cyber pornography.

Tafoki pointed out that, despite the increasing number of nations taking legislative measures against pornography, Nigeria has not yet addressed the issue effectively.

The lawmaker emphasized Nigeria’s strong religious values, noting that both Christianity and Islam condemn nudity and obscenity.

He also cited warnings from psychologists and sociologists about the damaging psychological and societal effects of pornography, which he argued could lead to serious issues such as adultery, prostitution, and addiction.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas put the motion to a voice vote, and it was overwhelmingly passed.

The House has now instructed the NCC to impose penalties on any internet service providers that fail to comply with the order, marking a major step in the country’s efforts to tackle online pornography.
