PDP NWC rejects suspension of BoT chair, Wabara

Date:

In a bold statement on Tuesday, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejected the suspension of Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), labeling the move as “reckless” and unconstitutional.

The controversy erupted earlier in the day when the Abia State Executive Committee (SEC) of the PDP announced Wabara’s one-month suspension, citing allegations of anti-party activities.

The Abia SEC further revealed that it would establish a seven-member panel to investigate the allegations and recommend further disciplinary actions.

However, the PDP’s national leadership wasted no time in addressing the suspension, which they argue is entirely outside the bounds of the party’s governing rules. In a statement, PDP spokesperson Debo Ologunagba denounced the suspension, emphasizing that it lacked legal standing.

“The NWC categorically dismisses the purported suspension as null and void and of no effect whatsoever,” Ologunagba declared.

He further pointed out that the actions taken by the Abia SEC were inconsistent with the 2017 amendment to the party’s constitution, adding that state committees do not have the authority to suspend national executives without prior consultation with the NWC.

“The Abia State Chapter has no powers whatsoever to take any disciplinary action against the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, being a member of the National Executive Committee of the Party,” Ologunagba emphasized.

The NWC’s statement made it clear that the party would not tolerate actions that undermine its constitutional framework.

“The PDP condemns this reckless and unconstitutional suspension and warns those behind this act to reconsider their steps,” Ologunagba said, cautioning that the NWC would take necessary disciplinary measures to protect the party’s stability.

Party members and supporters were urged to disregard the suspension, with the NWC reaffirming its commitment to upholding the principles of the PDP and its constitution.
